PUSH IT PRODUCTIONS
ABOUT
THE COMPANY
Wanda Sykes and Page Hurwitz joined forces in 2013 to form Push It Productions, a full-service production company dedicated to creating high-quality comedy programming that promotes diversity in front of and behind the camera. With numerous projects receiving multiple awards and nominations, Push It Productions has been established as a premiere talent-forward leader in the industry.
Sykes and Hurwitz’s extensive combined experience and strong relationships with comedians and writers give the company a unique ability to develop original projects across all comedy genres – including sketch, talk/variety, game and competition, sitcoms, stand-up specials, and documentaries. Since its inception, the company has landed projects with Netflix, NBC, BET, Epix, OWN, Fox, and TruTV, including the award-winning original series Herlarious, the critically acclaimed Talk Show The Game Show, and the groundbreaking series Unprotected Sets, which Hurwitz created for EPIX.
Push It's original series, The Upshaws, co-created by and starring Sykes, is currently streaming on Netflix and was just renewed for its fifth season. In addition to The Upshaws, Push It Productions is developing a new sitcom for Netflix from Emmy-nominated writer Chloé Hilliard. The company’s other Netflix series,Tiffany Haddish Presents: They Ready, was nominated for an Emmy Award, while their signature stand up specials have also received positive recognition from critics and comedy-lovers alike.
Fortune Feimster’s breakout hit special Sweet & Salty earned a Critics’ Choice Award nomination in 2021. Michelle Buteau's Welcome to Buteaupia, directed by Hurwitz, won the 2021 Critics’ Choice Award for Best Comedy Special. Sykes' Not Normal received Emmy and Image Award nominations, while Tiffany Haddish’s special, Black Mitzvah, was nominated for an Emmy Award and won the 2021 Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album. More recently, Sykes' I'm An Entertainer scored Golden Globe, Grammy, Emmy, Critics' Choice, and Image Awards nominations.
Push It Productions continues to expand its creative endeavors. Push It recently produced (and Hurwitz directed) Michelle Buteau’s new Netflix special, A Buteau-ful Mind. It is the first comedy special starring a female comedian to be shot at Radio City Music Hall. It will premiere in 2024. Hurwitz also wrote, directed, and produced the company’s first feature-length film, Outstanding: A Comedy Revolution, a documentary chronicling the history of LGBTQ+ comedy. The film premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Festival and was a New York Times Critic’s Pick.
